Abriendo Caminos2003 Yet another image created within a female torso. I designed this piece for the 2003 Dia de la Mujer conference at Michigan State University. I wanted it to speak to college-bound Latinas and so I created a scene where two women farmers are opening a path (abriendo caminos) for the new generations, represented by the two graduates in the foreground. The path leads to the city representing professional careers, but it also leads to a native american pyramid. The pyramid serves as a reminder to Latinas who have received a college education that they should not forget their origins and asks that they always honor the women, including our mothers and grandmothers, who have paved the way.
