Pedro Albizu Campos

1994
Silk screen on Paper
8" x 14"

Pedro Albizu Campos was a fiery orator. In one incident, as he was approaching a podium to address a group of Nationalists, he took all of the small American flags adorning the stage and stuffed them into his pockets, leaving only the Puerto Rican flags on display. He made it clear that as long as the US flag represented imperialism, it had no place on a stage in support of Puerto Rican liberation. Albizu is depicted in this silk screen at his most powerful place, before a microphone. His beloved Puerto Rican flags envelop him. On the stripes the message reads, "Resistance that will enable us to dispose of American colonialism."
