Part of this piece was used for the 2002 Muevete! Youth Conference
flyer. Muevete! provides Puerto Rican, Latino and other urban
youth with education, leadership and arts workshops each year
with its annual conference. The theme "Boricua on the Moon"
is borrowed from Juan Antonio Corretjer's poem, Boricua en
La Luna, in which he states that he would be Puerto Rican
even if he had been born on the moon. In the image I include an
excerpt from Corretjer's poem in the background of a lunar scape.
Behind the moon and earth is a portrait of the young Pedro Albizu
Campos since his image is most associated with Puerto Rican nationalism
and pride.
