In response to the research I had begun on my spiritual background, I wanted to explore the creation of sacred spaces within galleries. My first attempt was with Casa de Santo. As a result of this exhibit, I received encouragement from my painting professor, Prof. Kord, to further pursue installation art. The altar featured in this installation represents the central element of three separate paintings included in the exhibit, each paying tribute to the three religions I was raised with. They are Catholicism, Espiritismo and Santeria. The concept for the altar was borrowed from altars I had seen at home and in the homes of other espiritistas I had visited in my youth.
