In Santa Madre, I created a portrait of my mother, Brunilda Hernandez Quirindongo, honoring her and creating a conceptual elevation to "Sainthood", hence the name Santa Madre. I hold motherhood in extremely high regard, possibly because of the remarkable selflessness and numerous sacrifices my mom had to make as a mother and as a wife. The "halo" around her head includes a collage of photos of her with my siblings and I as we were growing up. The text on her womb is a poem I wrote about her constant patience and dedication and the struggles she endured as a wife.
