Soul Rebels is a tribute to musicians and poets
who have used their art to expose and combat injustice and whose
work should be shared, supported, celebrated and continued. The
project debut includes 8 painted panels installed on the doors
of El Teatro Heckscher in the lobby of El Museo Del Barrio, East
Harlem, New York. The installation is part of El Museo's Bienal:
The S-Files exhibition which opened on September 15th, 2005. The
panels will remain on view through 2006.
The 8 featured portraits in the Museo installation
were selected for their rerpesentation of the East Harlem/ Harlem
experience and/or because of the artists' relationship with El
Museo and its community. They represent a cross section of generations,
genres and ethnicities. The greater Soul Rebels project willl
grow to include many more artists. The panels to featured in the

The Museo debut of the Soul Rebels project happened in conjunction
with a special artist residency designed to provide for audience
interaction and participation in the development of the project.
In addition, a special Soul Rebels workshop series is being offered
at El Museo. Community feedback has been vital to the development
of the pieces. The menu on the left hand side has a link to a
questionnaire that I have been circulating on the Soul Rebels
artists. I would love to receive more feedback on your thoughts
on these artists.
Search the menu on the left hand side for event specifics
along with photos and press related to Soul Rebels.
