The energy or ache of the Orishas manifests within forces of nature. The ocean represents the essence of Yemaya (Mother of Fish in the Yoruba language), or it can be said that the ocean is Yemaya. She is the goddess of motherhood and guides all women. This painting was created as a tribute to her. I painted her swimming just beneath the surface of the sea. Her hair becomes the ripples of the water's surface and her dress becomes the vastness of the ocean's depths.
